Why We Built CipherShift

We were tired of solving captchas for other people's sins.

Our Story

Like many of you, we used VPNs for years. And like many of you, we experienced the downsides: constant captchas, blocked bank accounts, streaming services that knew we were using a VPN and the nagging suspicion that "no logs" was more marketing than reality.

The root cause was always the same: shared infrastructure. When thousands of users share an IP address, you inherit their collective reputation. Someone on your server sent spam last week? That's your problem now. A bot scraped a website from your IP yesterday? Enjoy your captcha.

We thought: what if every user had their own dedicated server? What if key rotation wasn't just a checkbox but a configurable feature that actually destroyed old keys? What if we built a VPN for people who actually understand how VPNs work?
